September 25, 2000. Alisée, our boat, leaves Semiahmoo on a truck.
While the boat is being trucked to the east coast, we start our trip in Washington, DC. Temperature is high, above 80ûF. Feels good. Washington is a great city to visit with kids for the museums.Pendant que le bateau traverse le continent en camion, nous commençons notre périple à Washington, DC. October 7, 2000. At the Buddy's Crab & Ribs restaurant we experience a typical crab dinner: brown paper on the table, a wood hammer to crack the crabs open and a plastic bucket for the remains...the kids love it... PS: We dedicate this picture to Konrad Mech who has experience with crab dinners..... Un repas typique devant une table garnie de crabes: la table est recouverte de papier brun, un marteau en bois nous permet d'ouvrir les crabes et l'on jette les restes dans un sceau !!!
Oxford is a little town on the east coast of the Chesapeake Bay. It is small, charming, quaint, very quiet...a good place to commission the boat before heading south. In October, the leaves are starting to change colors, the Canada geese are returning, corn is being harvested and kids play joyfully in pumpkin patches... Oxford, petite ville située sur la rive est de la Baie de Chesapeake, est un endroit calme et parfait pour préparer le bateau avant notre migration vers le sud. En octobre, les feuilles prennent de jolis tons d'orangés et de rouges, les oies décorent leciel et les maisons s'habillent pour l'Halloween ...
October 4, 2000. Before the boat arrives, we stay in a two bedroom apartment nestled in this beautiful Inn called the Sandaway Inn. (1871). It is on the water where the girls can go to the beach. En attendant le bateau, nous louons un petit appartement niché dans cette magnifique batisse de la fin du 19e siècle, le Sandaway Inn, donnant sur la mer et sur une petite plage privée où les filles peuvent s'en donner à coeur joie.
October 5, 2000. Our boat arrives in Oxford, barely making it through the narrow streets ...only a talented truck driver can negotiate this turn! Notre bateau arrive enfin, si large que le talentueux chauffeur a du mal à négocier son virage...
